Neglected by many tourists, Meknes is a modern and buzzing city of activity in northern Morocco, 130 kilometers from the capital, Rabat, going inland, and almost one million inhabitants. Towards the end of the 17th early 18th century, Moulay Ismail, a prominent figure of the city, made Meknes the hub of Morocco, and its mausoleum is one of the main sites to visit. Other not to be missed is the Moroccan Art Museum, featuring beautiful jewelery and art objects, and Bab Mansour, the largest and most extraordinary of the gates of the city.
